Hidden at the back of a parking lot in the Makkasan neighbourhood of Bangkok—after almost getting run over on the main avenue while following Google Maps—I found Arena CrossFit. Initially, I thought it would just be a vacation drop-in, another one of my WODs around the world, but it ended up being one of the best CrossFit gyms I have visited in recent times.

As soon as I arrived, I was welcomed by the smiling owner and her buddy Labrador, who ran around free in between the classes, looking for cuddles from the athletes.
Even with 30°C+ degrees (average year temperature in the city), stopping to breathe isn’t an option but Arena CrossFit is designed to handle it, the space has an incredibly high ceiling, with a mezzanine level upstairs, allowing the air to circulate and making the environment surprisingly pleasant—even for someone like me, used to training in a cold city like Amsterdam.
Venue and Equipment
Beyond the well-ventilated space, the gym is fully equipped with everything a CrossFit box should have. Plenty of erg machines plus ropes, rings, racks, and even a pegboard—all in top condition, everything was brand new and perfectly maintained.
While waiting for class and checking out the space, something caught my attention—someone meticulously cleaning each dumbbell, one by one. Something I have never seen in European gyms, where sky-high labour costs make services like this rare. It just confirmed my theory: the worse the income inequality in a country, the cleaner it is.

Technology and Coaching
I also have to mention the classic whiteboard—or in this case, a screen. I was shocked by the tech! The warm-up, strength, WOD and cooldown were all displayed on the screen before Coach Paan started the session.
Then there’s Coach Paan, who deserves special mention. She embodies the warmth and patience typical of Thai culture but also brings a high level of professionalism and attention to detail.
WOD
20-minute EMOM
1 – DB Box Step Overs
2 – Max effort Row
3 – Russian Kettlebell Swings
4 – Max effort Bike
5 – Rest
Booking and Pricing
My drop-in cost 800 THB (or 600 THB for Open Gym), plus a fee if you pay by card. It is best to book the class in advance through their website, here, especially for peak time slots like the 6:30 AM class (shoutout to the early birds) and the 5:00/7:30 PM classes, which are usually fully booked.
Last but definitely not least, The Community
Arena CrossFit’s international community reflects the city’s vibe—a dynamic and perfect mix of Thai locals and expats from all over the world.
Competitive? Yes, like most CrossFit athletes. But also incredibly welcoming and supportive, just as you’d expect from a great CrossFit community. After teaming up with the compact and super-strong Thai women, they were all quickly smiling, encouraging, and supporting me—a Brazilian traveller CrossFitter.
Arena CrossFit exceeded my expectations. From the welcoming vibe and top-notch equipment to the cleanliness and well-structured coaching. Definitely a solid choice for anyone looking for a genuine WOD in Bangkok.
Definitely worth a visit.
