CrossFit Silvaticus: A True Parisian WOD Experience

If you are tired of tourist traps and looking for an authentic experience in Paris, CrossFit Silvaticus is the place to be. Located near Place de la Nation, the box delivers a genuine WOD à la Parisienne.

CrossFit Silvaticus: Since 2014

Located in the eastern part of Paris, CrossFit Silvaticus offers 300m² of workout space, a post-WOD lounge and a strong community. The box has been around for 11 years and boasts a team of over 10 certified coaches. But watch out—this is a place for “Cool Pees Only.”

That is what their community members call themselves. It all started in 2014 when a group of friends began introducing CrossFit to others. Within just a few months, they had over 500 participants and were running daily sessions on the Quays of Austerlitz.

By 2016, they applied for CrossFit affiliation and opened their own box. Two years later, the gym expanded, adding a new workout space and sicne, over 1,200 people have trained at CrossFit Silvaticus.

The Experience

One of the things I love most about CrossFit is that no matter where you go in the world, you can look at the whiteboard and feel at home. In Paris, this was crucial for me to be able to follow a class conducted entirely in French.

Cash in:
3-5 toes to bar
10’ push-up hold
10’ push-up bottom hold

Familiar acronyms, check! Coach Ha’anui was super careful, keeping an eye on me during explanations to make sure I was following the flow. He even gave me a few instructions in English to ensure I could keep up.

WOD: For Time

2,400m run
Then
5 Rounds for Time:
15 push-ups
15 toes-to-bar
Time Cap: 24”

A 2,400m run? S**, Running is definitely not my best skill, but I have to admit that jogging through the narrow streets lined with centuries-old buildings was a pretty pleasant experience.

The 24 minutes flew by and I only managed to complete 4 rounds (short legs, what can I say?)

Cash Out: EMOM 4”
Max strict pull-ups

Jelly arms. Un… deux… and trois!

Total: three pull-ups!

One voice in my head whispered.

-Just three? And the other… – That is the cash-out, take it easy girl.

Conclusion

The Venue: A compact but fully functional box, well-equipped, with skilled coaches and structured classes.

Community: Even as a drop-in, I could feel the deep sense of friendship and history in this place. After class, I chatted with members over coffee in the lounge area. They welcome a lot of tourists and were more than happy to pose for a post-WOD pic. My class (and the next one) was predominantly male—only about 15% were women. (So is this how Emily felt in Paris?)

Experience: Western stereotypes still run strong, and my time at CrossFit Silvaticus confirmed some while breaking others. Yes, classes are in French. France takes pride in preserving its heritage and traditions. But despite the language barrier, I was greeted with smiles and kindness. Coach Ha’anui made sure I executed every movement correctly and followed along.
